U.S. Is Chiefly to Blame for Global Environmental Pollution: Researcher of DPRK Institute for International Studies

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- Kim Kum Hui, a researcher of the Institute for International Studies of the DPRK, Friday released an article titled "The U.S. Is Chiefly to Blame for Global Environmental Pollution".

Noting the U.S. is making no scruple of indiscriminately polluting the global environment against the present trend of times amid the ever-growing attention paid by the world public to preventing the global warming, the article said:

The U.S. became the world's biggest greenhouse gas emitting nation in the first half of the 20th century when it introduced massive consumption and massive dumping into its economy.

Since the end of the Cold War, it has facilitated the environmental pollution worldwide by forcing the American-style development "model" on many developing countries under signboard of "globalization" of economy.

The amount of greenhouse gas, emitted in the U.S., increased by 16 percent in the years between 1990 and 2005. It reached the 22.1 percent of the total global amount in 2004.

The U.S. used A-bombs against mankind for the first time. Since then, it conducted more than a thousand nuclear tests until the early 1990s to spoil the Ozone layer serving as an umbrella protecting the lives on the earth.

Actually, the earth is exposed to the danger of being reduced to a desert hit by radioactive pollution due to the armed intervention being perpetrated by the U.S. across the world under the pretext of "combating terrorism."

During the Iraqi war in 2003 the U.S. used 100 to 200 tons of depleted uranium shells seriously affecting human health and the environment.

Under the pretext of striking positions of the "Islamic State" it used 5 265 30mm-caliber armor-piercing depleted uranium shells in Syria in 2015.

The U.S., which massively used bio-chemical weapons during the Korean War in the 1950s and the Vietnamese War in the 1960s, is stepping up its preparations for bio-chemical warfare which will bring doom to the earth in the 21st century, too.

The U.S. conducted anthrax germ test at its Osan Air Force Base in south Korea in 2015. It is said that its destructive power reaches 95 percent and causes terrible pollution destruction. It is actually operating bio-warfare bases masked as "bioengineering labs" across the world.

Land and water pollution, caused by the leakage of waste oil, chemicals and heavy metals from thousands of U.S. military bases in 140 odd countries in the world, is very serious. This evil cycle of environmental pollution is a terrible disaster eclipsing the damage caused by the economic activities of mankind.

The U.S. has deliberately added to the environmental destruction by disturbing the worldwide efforts for preventing the global warming.

After its emergence, the present Trump administration has withdrawn a series of restrictive measures for preventing the global warming. It took such reckless action as withdrawing from the Paris Agreement on June 1.

Its mishandling of solutions to global warming is aimed to provide the greatest interests to the energy monopolies and military industrial complexes in the U.S. which invested it with power and continue backing it.

All facts clearly show that the U.S. is not only a ringleader which spawned global warming threatening the human existence and future of the earth but the enemy of mankind driving into an irretrievably catastrophic consequences by disturbing even the worldwide efforts to prevent it.

If the U.S. continues swimming against the trend of the times protecting the global environment, it will not escape from the stern judgment of mankind. -0-
