Illegal Sanctions Can Never Be Tolerable: KCNA Commentary

Pyongyang, June 23 (KCNA) -- Recently, European countries are strongly reacting against the fact that the U.S. Senate adopted a bill on sanctions expansion against Russia.

The bill which was cooked up, taking issue with Russia's "invasion of Ukraine", intervention in the U.S. presidential election, etc. involves not only Russian enterprises but also European ones participating in project for building the gas pipeline Russia-Europe Northern Stream-2.

The German foreign minister and the Austrian chancellor promptly published a joint statement in which they strongly declared "they could not accept illegal and extraterritorial attempt for sanctions," claiming that the new sanctions of the U.S. violate an international law and threaten the energy security of the EU.

Disclosing that the bill pursues the only aim at placing the upper-hand of the U.S. by pushing Russia beyond gas export to the European market, they stressed that political sanctions should not be linked with economic interests.

The German minister of Economy warned that Germany would take a retaliatory measure if Trump ratifies the bill, and the EU Commission and France demanded that the U.S. should discuss the sanctions against Russia upon consultation with its allies of Europe.

It is too natural that the U.S. sanctions are opposed and rejected by the international community as they unhesitatingly harm the interests of other countries and regions according to its interests and standards only, indifferent to international law.

The U.S. is frantically conducting the unjust and illegal sanctions and pressure upon the DPRK, taking issue with the latter's exercise of the right to self-defence to cope with the former's extreme hostile policy and nuclear threat to the latter.

The cruel and barbarous nature of the U.S. sanctions against the DPRK is beyond imagination as they are to deprive our state of its right to development and our people of their right to existence.

The U.S. has brandished the stick of sanctions against the countries aspiring for the independent life, being disobedient to it. Now it is to brandish the stick of sanctions against the European countries which are called its allies.

The reality shows that when the U.S. high-handed and arbitrary practices are permitted and any country support them, it can never escape from the target of the U.S. sanctions in the future.

The international community should never allow the U.S. sanctions to turn the world into an era of mediaeval darkness. -0-
